Dads Matter

St. Mary’s Family Learning Centre understands the value of fathers and their important role in their children’s lives. We encourage and welcome fathers to participate in all of the programs, courses, classes and activities offered at our Centre.

Children with involved fathers:

develop more successfully
are 2 times as likely to go on to post-secondary education
are 2 times as likely to find a stable job
are 75% less likely to become teenage parents
are 80% less likely to spend time in jail
have more curiosity and less fear socially
show greater tolerance for stress and frustration
have higher compassion and empathy
feel better about themselves and make better choices
have mothers that are happier
have better relationships with their siblings

St. Mary’s Family Learning Centre offers many programs specifically designed to meet the needs of fathers and their preschool children ages 0 – 6. Programs include:

Dads Group – Planning Sessions

During these meetings the Dads’ Group will plan the Saturday with Dad event and the 4th Annual One Day Dads Matter Conference.

The Dads Group – Planning Sessions will be held on Tuesday, September 20, October 11 and November 22, 2011 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. It is held at the Centre, 795 Giles Blvd. East in a comfortable room and pizza is provided.

Dads and Discipline

Facilitator: Mr. Chris Reid MSW, BSW

A six week parent group for fathers and grandfathers with children ages 0 to 6 years

Weekly Topics Include:

Preventing Burnout
Understanding Children and Behaviour
Communication Skills
Discipline

Tuesday evenings for 6 weeks. October 18, 2011 to November 22, 2011. 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

Saturday with Dad

Dads, bring your children (ages 0 – 6 years) to St. Mary’s Family Learning Centre on Saturday, November 26, 2011 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am for fun, food, activities and special guests.
